Master Jason Hughes brings 40+ years of martial arts practice and 30 years of teaching experience in Taekwondo to Live Oak Martial Arts. His credentials span multiple disciplines:
5th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo
1st Degree Black Belt in Shinto Muso Ryu Jo-Jitsu
Cross-trained in Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Tai Chi Chuan, and Hapkido
Competition Record: Master Hughes has earned 12 AAU National Championship titles across his martial arts career. His students have gone on to win multiple Junior Olympic, AAU State, and AAU National medals — a testament to his coaching ability and the training culture he's built at LOMA.
Master Hughes believes that martial arts are about more than kicks and punches. They're about building focus, discipline, respect, and self-awareness. Whether a student is a competitive athlete, a homeschooler seeking enrichment, a child with special needs, or an adult returning to fitness, he meets them where they are and guides them toward their own goals.
His class is structured but warm. He celebrates individual progress as much as competitive achievement.
"We feel like Master Hughes helped us raise our daughter through her teenage years. He was the exact fit for our family. My daughter went into her first class as an almost teenager with very little confidence in herself. Now at 20 she has thrived and become a very confident adult. He teaches by encouragement, not by pointing out flaws. It was the best decision we have ever made for lifelong lessons."
